This week Skyscraper Stan, Madeline Leman and The Darlings Family Trust are stopping by for a show.
Skyscraper Stan and his longtime touring band and collaborators the Commission Flats have generated a body of work that has attracted a loyal, and more recently global fanbase drawn to Stan’s easy lyrical style, inventive arrangements and deft genre twists and turns. With the Sydney Morning Herald calling him “a revelation,” his two previous albums including 2015’s Last Year’s Tune and 2019’s Golden Boy, and between them a live solo album in 2017 Live at Some Velvet Morning, shone a light on Stan’s ability to write concise and accessible narratives in a timeless style, suggesting a writer steeped in the traditions of the classics but looking to refresh that sound for the modern era. His global reach has been extended by the songs “I Fell Over” and “Always Thinking of You” and “21st Century Lullaby” featuring in the hit TV show Colin From Accounts. The third Skyscraper Stan and the Commission Flats studio album “Those Were Days” was released in February 2025 through Cheersquad Records, debuting at #1 on the Aria Australian Country chart.
Madeline is a kindred of the women of the 1960s and 70s but her music plants her firmly in the present. Her blend of alt-folk, country and rock’n’roll is defined by effortless vocals, timeless melodies and poignant lyrics. Reminiscent of Judee Sill and Carole King and influenced by Marina Allen and Leah Senior, she and her band join the dots between the folk clubs of NYC, the muddy fields of Woodstock, the honky-tonks of Nashville and the dive-bars of Melbourne. Singing in protest, love and reverence for the natural world she adds a uniquely Australian feel to the American roots tradition. Her 2026 album Ripen on the Vine debuted at no. 4 on the Aria Country Charts cementing her place as a mainstay of Melbourne's folk/country scene.
With acoustic fingerstyle guitar songs alongside sprawling stories sung in unison harmonies, The Darlings Family Trust root themselves in Folk music whilst dashing in and out of genres like Blues, Indie-folk and Country. TDFT have opened for bands Fanning Dempsey National Park, The Davidson Brothers, The Slingers, Skyscraper Stan, Hana and Jessie Lee’s Bad Habits, The Smith and Western Jury and Slim Krusty.
