Kick those Monday blues to the curb at Social Sanctuary – your weekly night of free live music at NSC. We've lined up a stellar roster of your fave local artists and some exciting new talents breezing through town!
This week Chitra, Winten and Romanie are stopping by for a show.
With her bold, clarion indie-rock music, Melbourne singer-songwriter Chitra Ridwan navigates the pressures and anxieties of relationships with the grace and dexterity of a dancer. Raised on the Bellarine Peninsula, Chitra found her calling in music early on, realising it was the world in which she felt safest and most seen. Her acclaimed self-titled debut EP was a wise-beyond-its-years document of young adulthood that confirmed Chitra's preternatural talent as an observer of relationships and human behaviour.
Winten is the moniker of Naarm/Melbourne-based musician and visual artist Bridgette Winten. Writing mostly at night, in her bedroom, her songs are an introspective collection of tenderness and triumph; gently reflecting on themes encompassing alienation and intimacy, romantic and familial heartbreak, growing pains, insecurity and acceptance, all the while acknowledging and loving an ever-present inner child. Released on August 18, 2023, her debut album 'Waving To My Girl' is an offering of masterful storytelling coupled with delicate-yet-sprawling instrumentation.
In the music of Romanie, the listener is invited to become immersed in a rich palette of sounds and influences, buoying a natural vocal talent. For Belgian-born, Melbourne-based singer and songwriter Romanie Assez, the music has always stemmed from an innate desire to express creativity through personal and engaging storytelling. Her 2023 debut album Are We There Yet? was nominated for the Australian Music Prize, AIR Feature Album, saw her winning the triple j Unearthed x NIDA music video competition and the 2023 Upstart Award, become a semi-finalist in the International Songwriting Competition, and finalist in St Kilda Festival’s New Music Competition. Ever since Romanie moved to Australia in 2019 she’s been establishing herself as a powerhouse in the live music industry, touring both solo as well as with her band supporting artists including Blanco White (UK), Yoke Lore (US), playing alongside Katy J Pearson (UK) and opening for Australian favourites such as Keli Holiday, The Moving Stills, Mia Wray, Little Green, Pseudo Echo, The Velvet Club and many more.
This show is proud to be supported by Live Music Australia – an Australian Government Initiative. Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat.
Our show is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land we are gathered on. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities that may join us for our show.
Northcote Social Club strives to create a safe space that everyone can enjoy.
Crowd surfing & dangerous behaviour will result in removal from the venue.
