Kick those Monday blues to the curb at Social Sanctuary – your weekly night of free live music at NSC. We've lined up a stellar roster of your fave local artists and some exciting new talents breezing through town!
This week Bec Sykes, Elaura & Pia and Anna Schneider are stopping by for a show.
Naarm/Melbourne based dream folk songwriter Bec Sykes has been deftly carving her own melody into the Australian music landscape with her striking voice, songwriting and success. Bec’s breathtaking debut single ‘Edithvale’ was undeniable in its minimalistic straight line to listeners’ hearts, leading her to win iconic Melbourne record label Pieater’s (Maple Glider, Big Scary) ‘Pie School’ competition in 2019 and the Josh Pyke Partnership in 2020. Produced by Robert Muinos (Didirri, Julia Jacklin) Bec's debut album 'Pepperpot Magic' comes out 6th November. Having supported the likes of Telenova, Mia Wray, Teenage Dads and Didirri, and recently showcasing at BIGSOUND 2024, Bec is on an undeniable path to bloom.
Raised in the Dandenong Ranges, Chilean/Australian sisters Elaura and Pia Nesvara are a soul-folk duo gracing stages across Melbourne. Blending intricate harmonies and guitar arrangements with influence of their Chilean heritage, the sisters touch on themes of love, belonging and finding inner strength. Each with years of experience within the music industry, Elaura and Pia’s love for their craft and each other is undeniable.
As her first note floats out into the air, hair on the backs of necks rise and chatter simmers to stunned silence; Boorloo singer-songwriter Anna Schneider has you pulled in, and as she plays on, you’ll want to be nowhere else. The earnest elegance of Anna’s songwriting, which slips between folk and indie with alt-country touchstones, appears tantalisingly effortless, true, and endearingly demanding of your attention. Wrapping up 2023 with two industry nominations for ‘Best Vocalist’ and ‘Best Folk/Singer-Songwriter act’ at the WAM awards and a premiere for her music video ‘Crush’ on ABC’s rage, Anna’s latest single ‘Shiny Thing’, a jaw dropping intimate orchestral track, has cemented Anna as a true vocal rarity and artist to be watched.
Social Sanctuary is proud to be sponsored by Mountain Goat.
Our show is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land we are gathered on. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities that may join us for our show.
Northcote Social Club strives to create a safe space that everyone can enjoy.
Crowd surfing & dangerous behaviour will result in removal from the venue.
