Coming off her own US headlining tour, Jess Cornelius is finally bringing her new album CARE/TAKING in live band form to her beloved Melbourne.
Released in July this year on Portland label Tender Loving Empire, CARE/TAKING was recently named Feature Album on Double J, Feature Album on Edge Radio (TAS) and Album of the Week on 3RRR.
In the US, KEXP (Seattle) added three songs to rotation and called it “A stunning display of expressive indie rock,” as well as inviting Cornelius to perform in the station’s famed live-to-air performance space. NPR All Songs Considered included the album in Best New Releases saying, “If you love Beatle-esque pop with razor-sharp insights, you’ll love CARE/TAKING.”
On the album, Cornelius sings of personal upheaval with striking lucidity and emotional nimbleness; the lush arrangements feature glistening keys, distorted bass and saxophone while her melodies careen into unexpected places. Live, the songs are distilled and intensified by Cornelius and her three-piece band.
Jess Cornelius was born and raised in New Zealand before moving to Melbourne, Australia, where she released three critically acclaimed albums as Teeth & Tongue. After relocating to Los Angeles, Cornelius released her 2020 album Distance, which garnered praise across the US, Australia, and the UK. Cornelius continues to live in Los Angeles and has toured across the US with Ty Segall, Islands, and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard.
Northcote Social Club strives to create a safe space that everyone can enjoy.
Crowd surfing & dangerous behaviour will result in removal from the venue.
