Art As Catharsis Presents...
Black Aleph
with Ghostsmoker + Treebeard + Skin Thief
Northcote Social Club (Northcote, VIC)
Thursday, 28 November 2024 7:30 pm
THIS SHOW IS STRICTLY 18+
Black Aleph’s form of deconstructed doom and cinematic post-metal is something that needs to be felt. It’s a bodily, earth-shuddering experience, conjuring up post-apocalyptic landscapes, blackened portals and obscure rituals.
The trio’s style has been compared to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Neurosis and We Lost The Sea - though with a borderline spiritual quality that comes from the influence of Middle Eastern modal traditions, as well as the band’s unique instrumentation: guitar, cello, and Iranian daf drum.
Featuring Lachlan R. Dale (Hashshashin) on guitar, Timothy Johanessen (ex-Mehr Ensemble) on daf, and Peter Hollo (Tangents) on cello, Black Aleph represent that heavy, cinematic and hypnotic music still has much to offer as an artform.
Don’t miss the supports, from the expansive post-metal act Treebeard, to the blackened sludge of Ghostsmoker and the weighty post-rock of Skin Thief.
Black Aleph’s Apsides is out 25 October on Art As Catharsis & Dunk Records.
