The Maes are back with their first Melbourne headline show since 2021. With Isaac Gunnoo on bass and Kyrie Anderson on drums and everyone on soaring, startling vocal harmonies, The Maes are entering a new sonic era and they can't wait to share it with their hometown crowd! With very special guests The Double Dole Stringband!
Beloved Melbourne folk band The Maes is the brainchild of sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby. The Maes are an outstanding live band, with engaging storytelling and spine tingling harmonies. The sisters draw their audience in like your sweetest and scariest friend. With echoes of Gillian Welch and The Waifs, there is a timeless luminescence and simplicity to the songwriting and sound of Maggie and Elsie.
As well as selling out headline shows around the country and overseas, their international festival appearances range from Auckland to Orkney, Edmonton to Colorado, WOMADelaide to Woodford.
The Maes self-titled 2019 album won the Music Victoria Folk/Roots Album of the Year and their song Driving Ali through Mining Towns was a finalist for the Vanda and Young songwriting competition. Their 2017, Nashville-produced album Take Care Take Cover also won the Music Victoria Folk album of the year as well as a five-star review from The Australian.
