Launching the series in Naarm is the live premiere of (A)RISE by Wiradjuri/Gadigal Sydney based artist Akala Newman expanding her new EP into an immersive performance experience. Electric and ethereal - melding language, lineage and club energy, it was developed during an international residency in Greece and recorded with support from Sound NSW. Emerging from the aftermath of her debut EP (A)VOID, (A)RISE explores what comes after survival — the shedding of old skin and the radical act of beginning again.
KP Hydes:
Hailing from the overachieving town of Cowra in Country NSW, the now Melbourne-based First Nations artist combines a wicked bravado with effortless vulnerability through intricate bars over house and jazz infused beats. With an ability to play up to big crowds and sink low into more casual settings, KP Hydes uses his full range to captivate audiences as an entertainer and as an educator.
Naomi Diane:
Naomi Diane is a Naarm (Melbourne)-based Gamilaroi singer-songwriter and Indigenous mentor. Known for her bright indie pop, soul, and 80s disco grooves, she is making a rising impact in the Australian music scene with popular singles like "Chasing The Sun" and "Same Sky".
