The Belair Lip Bombs & Armlock (Northcote SC 20th Birthday Celebration!)
with Special Guests Lucky
Northcote Social Club (Northcote, VIC)
Thursday, 21 August 2025 7:30 pm
NSC is turning 20 and we’re throwing one helluva party!
To celebrate two decades, we’re rolling out 20 Gigs for 20 Years — a huge birthday series running through July and August, stacked with some of our all-time favourites.
Jumping on the lineup are local legends Belair Lip Bombs and Armlock — two of your 'favourite artist's favourite artists', who’ve lit up our stage many times over the past few years.
Comprising four friends (Maisie, Mike, Jimmy and Dev) from the coastal town of Frankston, Victoria - The Belair Lip Bombs craft heartfelt and hook laden indie rock songs connected by the groups close bond and friendship. Led by Maisie Everett (Vocals, guitar), the group formed in 2017 and built an early following across Melbourne supporting local acts Ladyhawke, Spacey Jane, Slowly Slowly, Tired Lion, Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, British India, and more. Although cutting their teeth through a sonically varied and exciting beginning, the group made their most defining statement on 2023’s ‘Lush Life’ - a record spanning 10 tracks of evocative exploration; stories that run a gamut of longing, seeking new horizons and discovering new paths to satisfaction and self-fulfillment.
Initially released on Cousin Will Records in Australia - ‘Lush Life’ was recently reissued through Jack White’s Third Man Records, culminating as both the first Australian release on the international label and the beginning of an exciting record deal between the band and label. Since the release of ‘Lush Life’, the group have performed globally at Austin’s SXSW festival and The Great Escape in the UK. Locally, 2024 has seen The Belair Lip Bombs perform at Laneway Festival and Golden Plains, alongside national tours supporting Hockey Dad, Militarie Gun, Blondshell and more. The group have also embarked on a longlist of headline tours in Australia, New Zealand and the UK/EU - including sold out shows in London, Melbourne, Brisbane and more.
Armlock make music for having your head in the clouds. On their new album, Seashell Angel Lucky Charm, the Australian duo of Simon Lam and Hamish Mitchell take you through a steady ascension into heavenly sonic realms. The band’s second proper release, and first for Run For Cover Records, Seashell Angel Lucky Charm taps onto the songwriters’ roots in experimental electronic roots and filters them through an indie rock lens, drawing the listener in close with crystal clear guitars, tight rhythms, warm harmonies, and sparse arrangements that leave room for character and eccentricities. The result is an album of inventively minimal music that does a lot with a little.
Friends for 14 years, Lam (vocals and guitar) and Mitchell (guitar and keyboards) have been in their fair share of musical projects together and apart. The two met studying jazz at Monash University in Melbourne, eventually discovering a shared love of electronic music. After a handful of electronic and dance outlets (I’lls, Couture, Kllo) Armlock came together through the band’s natural camaraderie and comfort with collaboration, and the two began incorporating guitar into the music they were making for the first time. Capable of recording and engineering the whole project themselves, the pair never needed to be precious with studio time. Instead they preferred venturing down songwriting rabbit holes, chasing down a feeling and layering ideas at their home studios, unsure where a song would ultimately land. “There’s no real distinction between writing, demoing, and final production, it’s all done at the same time,” says Lam. “It’s a workflow that is much more common in electronic music and how we started making music together.”
Come raise a glass and help us celebrate 20 years of great gigs and good yarns at NSC — we wouldn’t want to do it without you!
Plus, snag a ticket to one of our birthday series shows and you could win a double gig pass, pub voucher & merch!
Our show is being held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as the Traditional Owners of this land we are gathered on. We also pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and Aboriginal Elders of other communities that may join us for our show.
