The JOLT Fusion: Africubismo + Guests

Africubismo is a bold new transcontinental collaboration bringing together four master musicians to explore the deep musical currents flowing between West Africa and Cuba.
 
Featuring:
Ray Pereira (percussion) – one of Australia’s foremost percussionists
Amadou Suso (kora) – master Gambian griot and virtuoso of the 21-string kora
Yunior Terry Cabrera (bass) – internationally acclaimed Cuban bassist and composer
Julien Wilson (saxophone) – Award winning Australian saxophonist and improviser
 
Inspired by the groundbreaking work of Afrocubismo, Africubism journeys across the Atlantic to trace the shared rhythmic DNA of Mandé music and Afro-Cuban traditions. From the rolling cascades of kora lines to the polyrhythmic drive of rumba and son, the project reveals the circular migration of melody, groove and spirit between West Africa and the Caribbean.
 
Rather than recreating repertoire, Africubism reimagines this dialogue through original compositions and improvisation. The ensemble bridges griot storytelling, Cuban rhythmic architecture, contemporary jazz language and diasporic groove, creating music that is at once ancestral and forward-looking.

Gamelan DanAnda will be bringing the fireworks and blazing interlocking of Balinese Gamelan Gong Kebyar to the Bolt Ensemble. Gamelan DanAnda most often perform traditional Balinese repertoire everywhere from Australia's leading festivals to community gatherings, but they also have a diverse contemporary fusion practice with successful collaborations with Joelistics, Komang, Firetail, and their award-winning soundtrack to the Diets and Deities video game with Kuya James x Tutup Mulut.
