Terrible Muriel (album launch - matinee)
Terrible Muriel is the loud and proud queer, feminist, post-punk love child of Naarm-based musicians Cinta Masters (drums, lead vocals), Emmy Porter (bass) and Kate O’Halloran (guitar).
Taking inspiration from riot grrl icons Sleater-Kinney and women-fronted artists and bands like PJ Harvey, The Breeders, Warpaint, Love of Diagrams, Chastity Belt, Veruca Salt and more, Terrible Muriel’s all-original gigs are selling out venues, as loyal crowds devour the band’s juicy harmonies and catchy melodic hooks.
This Sunday afternoon gig launches their debut album ‘In My Head’, which brings an unapologetic, high-energy intensity encapsulated by the wailing cries of second single ‘Take Me’. The band goes to hard places: their fourth single, ‘Introverted Weirdo’, is an anthem about social anxiety; ‘In My Head’ about our tendency to overthink to the point of pain. Then there’s fan-favourite Holiday, an infectiously poppy ode to the pain of Melbourne winter, with hints of 90s alt-rock.
This is a band not just here to rock, however; Terrible Muriel is also serious about supporting women, gender diverse and queer people in the music industry. This event is also about celebrating that community, and the incredible folks who have supported the band’s journey so far.
